A Course of Empire

2000
Hand toned silver gelatin prints
mounted on wood, graphite,
charcoal, acrylic resin

Encircled by a tiny car race, we are reminded of a time when speed was a thrill and not an expectation. A Course of Empire refers to the series of paintings by Fredrick Edwin Church which depict the birth, growth and downfall of the Roman Empire. The course these cars travel has no visible start or finish. They are stalled in perpetual forward motion.
